THE CHURCH GOD WANTS US TO BE

The word of the Lord that came through the people of SBC in 2022:

I seek a joyous and peaceful family, with people from every generation, and a heart that beats as one.

My church must be relevant and filled with newness and energy. One that walks in humility and embraces everyone as I do.

I yearn for people that are redeemed by Jesus, passionate for the Word, empowered by the Spirit, walking in healing and wholeness, and living out their faith in action.

I call you to be a lighthouse, centred on and shining into the community, and raising up future generations through the power of the gospel.

OUR BELIEFS

We are a Baptist Church affiliated with Queensland Baptists, serving Silkstone and surrounding suburbs. We stand within mainstream evangelical Christianity in affirming the following basic tenets of the Christian faith.

  • The sinfulness of mankind
  • The deity of Jesus Christ
  • His atonement for the sin of mankind
  • The divine inspiration of the scriptures
  • The need of the Holy Spirit for conversion
  • The resurrection of the dead
  • Rewards and punishment in a future state

Further to these core beliefs, we seek to exercise the following:

In essential beliefs – we have unity
Ephesians 4:4-6, “There is one Body and one Spirit…there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all…”

In non-essential beliefs – we have liberty
Romans 14:1,4,12,22, “Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgement on disputable matters…Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls…So then each of us will give an account of himself to God…So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.”

In all our beliefs – we show charity
1 Corinthians 13:2, “If I hold in my mind not only all human knowledge but also the very secrets of God, and if I have no love, I amount to nothing at all.”
